Changes Along our Canal

The Ohio and Erie Canal reached Akron in 1827 and it became a "Boom Town:. Join Cascade Lock Park volunteer, Denny Reiser on a photo tour of Cascade Lock Park, lock 15 to Lock 10, and learn more about the changes that have taken place from 1827 to the present. Also, journey south along the canal to Canal Fulton and see how the towpath looks today.

The War of 1812 in the Old Northwest

President of the William Wetmore Chapter Daughters of 1812, Sharon Myers, will present a 1 hour video that was released in the fall of 2012 .

A young United States sought to expand to the north and the west in 1812, but the British wanted to keep us contained. The Canadian provinces wanted a buffer zone between themselves and the United States. The Native Americans wanted this area declared as Indian Territory.  read more »

Shades of Blue and Gray: Ghosts of the Civil War

As a nation, we continue to be haunted by the Civil War. Presented by the Largely Literary Theater Company co-founders Sara Showman (from the South) and Mark Dawidziak (from the North), this hour show blends both actual and literary ghost stories from Ohio and other states, including South Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee. Literary selections include poetry by Walt Whitman and a ghostly tale by Ohio native (and Civil War veteran) Ambrose Bierce. The show also features a special selection about Abraham Lincoln.
